Today I put those eggs and filled out the rest of the incubator with our own eggs. I went to the livestock auction, looking for some Maran eggs, they had the eggs, which usually get $3-4 dz, but they had so many goats to sell they would not be starting the chickens until way late in the day. I happened to speak with the people that brought the Maran eggs, they will sell them to me at their farm for $2 dz and they have Marans, Light Brahmas, Black and Red Giants, and the biggest Araucana eggs I have seen. I plan to get a few dozen next week and start them in my old incubator. My hope is that at some point before they hatch out (not counting them yet) some of my hens will go broody and I will take the eggs from the incubator and put them under the hens. Hoping to get a new round of birds going soon so that they will start laying their own eggs in the fall, waiting too long to hatch them out and they won’t start until next spring.
